Summary About the Position:This Telecommunications Specialist (COMSEC) is located at U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground, Network Enterprise Center Directorate with duty location of Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona. Description

As a Lead Telecommunications Engineer in our Electric Grid Infrastructure Services business unit, you will:

+ Engage in fast-paced utility client projects to plan, engineer & design communications solutions to address operational requirements & emerging trends including Smart Grid, Distribution Automation and Smart Metering

+ Perform radio path studies including path profiles, propagation analysis, link power budgets, coverage studies

+ Recommend, coordinate and assist in licensing and permitting efforts

+ Develop network architecture designs based on TDM, SONET, IP / MPLS and other relevant standards

+ Prepare network and channel diagrams and perform timing studies

+ Design fail safe systems with path & equipment redundancies & diversity to serve mission-critical operations with extreme reliability

+ Ensure strict adherence to NERC standards for Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP)

+ Stage, configure & test integrated systems designs, for interoperability & performance consistent with predictive models in our Protection, Automation & Telecommunication Laboratory

+ Specify requirements and provide cost estimates for ancillary support systems including radio towers, outside (fiber) cable plant (typically OPGW & ADSS), DC power, grounding, fiber splice cases & distribution panels, shelters and outdoor enclosures, etc.

+ Coordinate and provide guidance to other engineers, project managers, client personnel, and suppliers to ensure a complete and timely design.

+ Develop your career via peer-learning through sharing of knowledge with other experienced engineers by way of Sargent & Lundy’s systems of process and associated “Communities of Practice.”

+ Provide guidance as a mentor in the development of less experienced engineers.

kW Mission Critical Engineering, a WSP USA company, is currently initiating a search for a **Telecommunications Designer** to sit in our New York, NY kW office **.** As a Telecommunications Designer with us, you will design Outside Plant Pathways and other building systems including MMR/IDF layouts, Cable Tray layouts, Wireless Access Point layouts, and structured Cabling infrastructure layout to support the Controls Network

Your Impact

+ Work independently to perform a variety of BIM/CAD design assignments supporting multiple engineering disciplines

+ Produce accurate 2D drawings, 3D BIM Models using Revit or equivalent BIM program

+ Design low voltage systems for buildings including telecommunications systems, audio visual, security, and electrical/mechanical control integrations

+ Meet required schedules while producing quality work

+ Perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control of design packages

Who You Are

The ideal candidate is highly experienced in Revit and AutoCAD and has experience in information and communications technology. Strong communication skills, and an interest in liaising with internal and external design, client and construction team members are also necessary.

Infrastructure Technician II- Performs skilled infrastructure/structured cabling work in the installation, service and maintenance, repair and alteration of low voltage category cabling, fiber optic cabling, communications cabling and other various low voltage cabling systems. Complete physical installations and removal of structured cabling components, cabinets, pathway systems (cable tray), move equipment, racks, and related communications infrastructure materials. Will work with Layer support and IP phone installs as well.

Position Details:

+ Standard work hours: Varies Mon-Fri 8:00am start; work up to 8-10 hours (All shifts require flexibility to work outside of hours and as needed weekends)

Responsibilities:

+ Perform installation and service of low voltage category cabling, fiber optic cabling, communications cabling, communication equipment and other various low voltage related systems such as Category 3, Category 5, Enhanced Category 5, Category 6 and Fiber Optic Structured Cable Distribution Systems.

+ Evaluate, diagnose, troubleshoot cabling infrastructure systems and perform repairs as necessary.

+ Perform upgrades and additions to cabling infrastructure systems in order to increase functionality and usability.

+ Coordinate with other Team Members within North American Commercial Services (NASI) Operations for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.

+ Inform operations management regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing necessary information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with OSHA regulations.

+ Complete required documentation in a variety of written and electronic formats according to company standards such as time reporting for billing & payroll, work order progress & completion, time and materials for client SLAs, etc.

+ Request equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items, as required.

+ Respond to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate client concerns and meet SLAs.

+ Transport a variety of items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at client site.

+ Attend meetings, workshops, training, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.

+ Achieve performance targets established by leadership for applicable Key Performance Indicators.

What part will you play?

The Senior Installation Technician is responsible for performing a wide variety of installation duties on technology projects for our clients. This position is the key field position for the bulk of the actual work that gets done in our clients’ buildings. The install tech needs to coordinate with project management, field superintendents and others to fully understand their role on specific projects. They interpret our drawing packages to create the basis of the finished systems. The installation can include rack and enclosure build outs, panel terminations, device installation, testing and troubleshooting. The Senior Tech will be responsible for our most complex system designs, will mentor other technicians and set the example in all aspects of the job.

What will you be doing?

+ You will be expected to know and learn what is on the BOM for every job and know the material required for your job.

+ Maintain timeline of job schedule with regards to when devices/head end work needs to be installed and terminated.

+ If you are not able to maintain a given timeline, it is expected for you to communicate that with the site supervisor ASAP.

+ Take ownership of job schedules for workload given to you.

+ Prioritize your time properly and be able to manage multiple tasks at any given time.

+ Maintain constant communication with the Site Supervisor on a daily basis.

+ Point out any/all problems found on drawings/matrix to Site Supervisor ASAP.

+ Communicate with Site Supervisor ASAP if equipment is missing/defective. Getting replacement inventory may be delayed due to lead times, hence it is very important to notify to appropriate party ASAP.

+ Help Site Supervisor with inventory if and when needed (maintain an online copy on one note)

+ Keep written records of the following on One Note:

+ Work accomplished with technicians/trades (sub-contractors, GC, EC)

+ Project issues

+ Discuss problems that may arise

+ Site Readiness Document

+ Site Inventory (kept up to date, at minimum, on a monthly basis)

+ Redlines/RFIs (if required)

+ Communicate the need for assistance and guidance for any work that is required for the job. This may include labor problems as well as technical issues.

+ Assist installation technicians on questions or concerns with installation of devices/head end work to be done.

Complexity: This level of technician will be responsible for performing tasks on clients’ job sites with no supervision. This position is responsible for the coordination with clients, contractors and subcontractors. This position will be the key and only senior field supervisor in many situations and will be responsible for delegating work, monitoring others work and communicating with key stakeholders on behalf of the PM. This position requires the highest level of technical and people skills.

Decision Making Authority: This position is often alone on the job sites and requires making good judgement about decisions that need to be made. In general, the project manager and a site supervisor are available to answer questions. This position is independent and will need to make onsite decisions on behalf of the PM. This position requires good diplomacy in working with our clients and other key stakeholders on the job sites.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that may be met by an employee. The employee may be exposed to construction site conditions on a regular basis. Employee will be responsible for their safety while on job sites and to comply with all safety regulations in place by the GC. Use of PPE is usually required on job sites. The employee can typically spend at least 50% of their time on their feet and be required to mobile around the construction site. The employee must have the ability to occasionally climb ladders, use stairs and lift and/or move materials up to 40 pounds in construction areas. The individual is regularly required to use keyboards, test equipment and controls required for SI installation projects. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth vision. When not on construction sites, the employee will experience normal office conditions and be required to use office equipment such as computers, peripherals, etc.

Travel: Frequent travel by car and occasional airplane trips are required. Employee must possess a valid driver’s license in their state of residence. Employee will be required to use their own vehicle and will be reimbursed for mileage at the current corporate rate. Local travel to job sites (within a 2-hour driving distance each way) will make up 70-90% usually but remote travel can be up to 30% of the job at times. 10% remote travel is required on a regular basis.
