Community preparedness is increasingly critical in our complex world. Through coursework in community resilience and disaster management, you can learn to be an agile and decisive public sector leader while gaining a competitive edge in this growing field.
The BAS program with a concentration in emergency management is a flexible, 60 credit hour degree program.
The curriculum is designed specifically for students who have completed an AAS from a regionally accredited institution.
The required capstone class provides experience to students through coordinated internships.
This program is not available to first-year students.
This program may be eligible for an Optional Practical Training extension for up to 36 months. This OPT work authorization term may help international students gain skills and experience in the U.S. Those interested in an OPT extension should review ASU degrees that qualify for the STEM-OPT extension at ASU's International Students and Scholars Center website.
The OPT extension only applies to students on an F-1 visa and does not apply to students completing the degree through ASU Online.

Program learning outcomes identify what a student will learn or be able to do upon completion of their program. This program has the following program outcomes:
- Conduct analysis applying foundational principles of emergency policy and management in the context of complex systems.
- Demonstrate understanding of the complex organizational and governance structures operating in emergency management and homeland security.
- Synthesize their understanding of risk, organizations, and governance to create basic mitigation strategies to manage disruption.
Understanding how different regions around the world react to disasters can lead to insight on how to bring solutions to students' own communities. When studying abroad, students can make meaningful connections through exchange of ideas and perspectives. Study abroad programs that focus on issues like counterterrorism, resource management and urban infrastructure can help students develop a more informed and well-rounded view of emergency management.
The degree in emergency management opens the door to a challenging career as a professional emergency manager. The advancement of technology has created the potential for more devastating disasters than ever before. As a result, there is an increasing demand for emergency managers who have a solid foundation in scientific and technical disciplines as well as management skills.

3 year programs
These programs allow students to fast-track their studies after admission and earn a bachelor's degree in three years or fewer while participating in the same high-quality educational experience of a 4-year option. Students should talk to their academic advisor to get started.
Accelerated master's
These programs allow students to accelerate their studies to earn a bachelor's plus a master's degree in as few as five years (for some programs).
Each program has requirements students must meet to be eligible for consideration. Acceptance to the graduate program requires a separate application. Students typically receive approval to pursue the accelerated master’s during the junior year of their bachelor's degree program.
