**Minimum Qualifications**

Who You Are

**Required Qualifications**

• PE or PE eligibility desired; having an AZ PE a plus

Job Purpose: To install, maintain, upgrade and fabricate piping and piping systems and supports, according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings at water and wastewater treatment plants.

Roles, Duties, & Responsibilities:

+ Reads blueprints to determine work procedures.

+ Perform flange make-up (proper torque)

+ Set up and operate oxy-acetylene torch for heating and cutting

+ Install reinforced concrete pipe

+ Fabricate PVC pipe from plans

+ Give crane and heavy equipment hand signals

+ Inspect new equipment and machinery then moves it into position by utilizing hoisting devices, such as pulleys and cables, hoists, dollies, rollers, and/or trucks.

+ Construct foundation for machines using hand tools and building materials, such as wood, concrete and steel.

+ Assemble machines and bolts in order to fasten them to foundation or other structures using hand tools and power tools.

+ Attaches moving parts and subassemblies to basic assembly unit.

+ Assembles and installs equipment, such as shafting, conveyers, and tram rails using hand tools and power tools.

+ Dismantles machinery and equipment.

+ Installs shims, adjusts tension on nuts and bolts, or positions parts using measuring instruments to set specified clearances between moving and stationary pars.

+ Repairs and lubricates machines and equipment.

**The Opportunity**

The **Engineering Manager for Water & Wastewater** will manage execution of the engineering component of multiple traditional, design-build, design-bid-build, and collaborative delivery projects including advanced treatment facilities, underground conveyance, and carbon neutral solutions. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Deliver high-profile projects for major municipal clients in **Phoenix, AZ** and surrounding areas.

The Wastewater Utility Worker I & II positions reports to the Wastewater Utility Supervisor. The primary function of these positions are to perform skilled and semi-skilled duties related to reclaimed, recharge or waste water collection. Follows preventative maintenance procedures and schedules on vehicles, equipment and hand tools. Inspects and monitors work-related conditions to determine compliance with prescribed operating and safety procedures in order to protect public and worker safety including the use of personal protective equipment. Must be able to work independently or within a team.

Additional essential duties depending on the area of assignment include but are not limited to:

+ Maintains regular and reliable attendance

+ Performs repairs and maintenance on wastewater systems and reclaimed water distribution systems

+ Monitors water volumes that are delivered to basins and customer sites;

+ Troubleshoots system problems and makes recommendations for corrective action;

+ Fills percolation ponds according to predetermined schedules and revises schedule depending on system requirements;

+ Operates, inspects, and maintains reclaimed water distribution infrastructure: logs daily records interpret readings from meters, gauges, charts, and instruments; and detects mechanical or process deficiency

+ Performs maintenance, inspection, and repair of wastewater collection assets such as gravity mains, force mains, manholes, and lift stations safely and proficiently

+ On-call as required

+ Operate a variety of equipment, machinery, and tools that include a utility truck, heavy machinery such as a dump truck, tractors, skid loaders, backhoes, excavators, CCTV equipment, and combination sewer cleaners

+ Insects and treatments to make recommendations on treating wastewater sites and other facilities for mosquitos and midge flies.

+ Available on a 24-hour basis for emergencies and after hour’s callouts when Oncall or required

Gilbert has two Water Treatment Plants; our North Water Treatment Plant is located at 2865 E. Guadalupe and our San Tan Vista Water Treatment Plant is located at 3695 E. Ocotillo Rd. Our current vacancy is located at our North Water Treatment Plant.

The Water Treatment Plant Operator reports to the Water Treatment Plant Utility Supervisor. The primary function of a Water Treatment Plant Operator is to operate the water treatment plant including supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system or manually. Conduct minor plant and equipment maintenance including general housekeeping and provide assistance to maintenance staff. Perform laboratory analysis and jar test to determine optimum chemical dosages. Additionally, the Water Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for keeping log books, lab books, lab reports, midnight daily total reports, inspection reports, backwash logs and updating ozone database.

The individual selected will operate and monitor water treatment plant systems using DCS and SCADA computer systems, conduct visual plant inspections, monitor plant operations and processes, ability to work with and around treatment Chemicals in a safe manner, detect problems to ensure proper operation and make process decisions as deemed appropriate. Operators also assist in maintenance and repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment and machinery as necessary. Additionally, we train new employees in the operations and maintenance of Two Surface Water Treatment Plants utilizing the latest in treatment technology focused on continuous quality improvement.

Candidates for a Level I Operator must possess the following requirements:

+ High School Diploma or GED

+ 2 years of experience in surface water treatment plant operations, could be supplemented by vocational/technical training in water treatment plant operations, water distribution systems or related equipment maintenance.

+ Must obtain an ADEQ Grade 1 Water Treatment Plant Operator certification within six months of hire. Must obtain an ADEQ Grade 1 Water Distribution System Operator certification within 1 year of hire.

+ Pay range for a Water Treatment Plant Operator I is $24.99 - $36.23.

Candidates for a Level II Operator must possess the following requirements:

+ High School Diploma or GED.

+ 2 years or more of technical training beyond high school in water treatment.

+ 2 - 5 years of experience in public sector water distribution system and in water treatment.

+ Grade 2 Water Treatment Certification and a Grade 2 Water Distribution Certification at the time of hire or promotion.

+ Pay range for a Water Treatment Plant Operator II is $28.30 - $41.04.

+ Candidates for a Level III Operator must possess the following requirements:

+ High School Diploma or GED.

+ 4 years or more of technical training beyond high school in water treatment.

+ 2 years of experience in public sector water distribution system and 4 years of experience in water treatment.

+ Grade 3 Water Treatment Certification and a Grade 3 Water Distribution Certification at the time of hire or promotion.

+ Pay range for a Water Treatment Plant Operator III is $30.15 - $45.23.

The successful candidate must meet the physical standards and requirements for wearing Air Purifying Respirator (APR) and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) respiratory protection equipment. Must qualify to use protective equipment based on passing a specialized physical examination before hire date and must maintain respirator certification. Work will require climbing portable ladders and entering confined spaces. Operators work varied shifts requiring the availability to work days, evenings, nights, and weekends on a rotating schedule.

This position is an At-Will position and is FLSA Non-Exempt - eligible for overtime compensation.
