Conduct research, in collaboration with other ARS scientists and with academic and private industry scientists, as needed. Develop improved plant populations including double haploid (DH) populations and carry out activities including nursery design, planting, crossing, phenotypic characterization and sample collection for DNA marker activities. Establish a double haploid (DH) protocols, including culture media preparation, plating anthers, transfer callus and plantlets in various growth chambers and greenhouses. Lead establishment of processes and practices related to industrial crops molecular breeding methodologies including developing DNA markers for marker-assisted selection (MAS) and genomic selection (GS). Support the applications of genomic and transcriptomic tools in breeding programs. Implement, interpret, report and present results from laboratory, greenhouse, and field studies. Evaluation of Education: Most students in the field take graduate work because specific training in genetics may be limited at the undergraduate level. Under these circumstances, it may be necessary to evaluate undergraduate course work in genetics in one of two ways, as described below, to determine whether or not it is qualifying. Courses dealing with genetics, some phase of genetics, or specific techniques that are applied in genetics work are acceptable. This includes courses in genetics, plant or animal genetics, molecular and cellular biology, mathematics and statistics (as they apply to genetics), population dynamics, and certain techniques such as those dealing with irradiation. Course work consisting of an appropriate combination of basic courses in genetics and cytology or statistics are also acceptable. A PhD in the molecular plant sciences, plant genetics, plant breeding or related fields. **Position Summary**

The Molecular Geneticist position is directly responsible for developing and using genetics and molecular biology techniques to identify potentially targetable alterations in the tumors, and in addition to examine inherited conditions such as cancer predisposition syndromes, and other heritable conditions (e.g. drug metabolizers). The candidate will join a team of molecular scientists and directors in our oncology-focused molecular genetics laboratory in Phoenix, Arizona. The laboratory is clinical a state-of-the-art, high throughput molecular genetics testing facility that interacts closely with pathology and oncology services, and serves a large clinical users base (over 6000 different referral physicians, mostly oncologists mainly in the US but also throughout the world).

**Job Responsibilities**

+ Evaluating genomic profiles of tumor and blood specimens (NGS based).

+ Overseeing and developing assays, from RNA and DNA including: sequencing (NGS, pyrosequencing, Sanger) and DNA fragment analysis.

+ Writing supplements to the standard reports for clinicians, and advising them on investigation strategies, as needed.

+ Interpreting the results of routine and esoteric molecular tests carried out by molecular technologists.

+ Developing and devising new testing strategies, primarily in oncology, but other fields as needed.

+ Assist the DDE and Chair in the development, content, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum for programs within the PA Department.

+ Provide guidance and direction to department staff and faculty involved in the coordination and instruction of the curriculum.

+ Teach, evaluate, and counsel students.

+ Provide liaison with appropriate offices and departments involved in medical allied health education with external agencies useful to didactic instructions.

+ Secure, orient, and evaluate adjunct faculty.

+ Provide feedback to instructors to help them improve their teaching skills.

+ Assist DDE and Chair in evaluating teaching and learning effectiveness of curriculum.

+ Counsel students with academic and professionalism issues, referring them to appropriate personnel as needed.

+ Assist the DDE and Chair in maintaining ongoing progress for evaluating and reporting the teaching/learning effectiveness of the curriculum to be incorporated in the ongoing self-study.

+ Interact with key external organizations to enhance the role of programs within the PA Department.

+ Assist with the preparation of grants, reports, and self-studies related to funding and accreditation.

+ Assist with the preparation of handout materials, audiovisual aids, and any other assistance needed by instructors.

+ Monitor student progress with assistance from instructors; serve as a primary academic advisor for a cohort of students.

+ Review educational literature and learning media to keep faculty abreast of new teaching/learning strategies.

+ Assist in reviewing applications, interviewing, and selecting candidates for programs within the PA Department.

+ Other duties as assigned by the department chair.

+ Master's degree required. Doctoral degree preferred.

+ Two to three years of healthcare experience required.

+ At least one year of educational experience in a faculty leadership role is preferred.

+ Knowledge of PA practice competencies.

**Description**

A.T Still University's Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health (ATSU-ASDOH) is seeking full-time exempt Periodontics faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor level on the Mesa, Arizona campus.

**Major Job Duties:**

+ **General** – conduct teaching, scholarship, service and patient care in support of the mission and goals of ASDOH and ATSU. Promote an atmosphere of respect, collegiality, commitment to diversity and social justice, and humanistic learning environment.

+ **Teaching** – preclinical and clinical supervision as a Periodontist in ASDOH clinics; effectively carry out lecture, seminar, preclinical and clinical assignments as assigned, with a focus on Periodontics, including implant surgical procedures.

+ **Service** – Participate in committees, faculty governance, professional societies and associations, community events, and provision of CE.

+ **Patient Care and Treatment** - Provide direct patient care in ASDOH Clinics that supports community service, efficient clinic operations, student/resident education, or when in the best interest of the patient.

+ **Scholarship** - Establish and maintain scholarly and/or research activity in area of expertise, at level consistent with scheduled annual workload.

**Responsibilities:**

+ Pre-Clinical and Clinical Supervision: Provide supervision of predoctoral dental students in simulation and patient care activities within the scope of general dentistry with a focus periodontics; provide clinical supervision of ASDOH residents as assigned. This includes consultation, treatment planning, and direct patient care in coordination with student providers, CCU directors and other specialty faculty as needed.

+ Oversee the development, implementation, revision and assessment of curriculum as assigned, integrating periodontics with other predoctoral curriculum, including behavioral, biomedical and clinical sciences.

+ Documentation: Complete documentation on student performance/progress towards competency; review and approve EHR documentation in clinic and simulation lab.

+ Support Director of Periodontics to coordinate with responsible Administrators, Asst/Assoc Deans in Clinic and Pre-Clinics, and Director of Clinic Operations to establish protocols related to curriculum responsibility areas; enforce clinic policy including infection control, QI, risk management, record keeping, assure safety and supervision and direction of clinic support staff.

**Education & Experience:**

+ DDS degree required.

+ Excellent communication, problem solving, crisis management and organizational skills, high emotional intelligence, tact and diplomacy.

+ Must be able to be self-directed and take initiative; role model life-long learning and critical thinking skills.

+ Must possess a high degree of in-depth knowledge and surgical skills in the field of Periodontics and dental implant surgery; be willing and able to act as a chair-side clinical faculty instructor (e.g., direct patient care; clinic demonstration, direct student observation of clinical activity).

+ Specialty board certification by American Board of Periodontology is required.

+ Minimum three years of clinical experience after completion of periodontics residency program is preferred.
