    **Position Summary:**

    The Principal Mechanical R&D Engineer is the technical leader who performs a wide variety of engineering work related to product scope and design. The Principal Engineer is expected to be the lead technical voice and driving force behind the advancement of Sustainability Solution’s Design Team, identifying opportunities for increased efficiency, cost savings, test platform development, and innovative design solutions. The engineer works closely with our NPD project teams and internal customers to better understand needs and translate into the overall system design plan. The engineer will also lead discussions around new processes and components as well as development, application, and approval of design modifications for reprocessing medical devices. The Principal Engineer troubleshoots and provides technical leadership during design, research, and/or development, especially as it relates to medical devices, replacement components, and test fixtures. Specific job responsibilities include:

    + Drive the development of efficient mechanics of engagement between the Design Team and the rest of the division.

    + Identify and lead development of business case to address technical gaps in Design Team.

    + Technical mentorship of junior engineers.

    + Design moderate to complex R&D test fixtures, manual and semi-automated, to characterize medical device performance and structural integrity.

    + Design moderate to complex production test fixtures and processing equipment, manual and semi-automated, for inline testing, disassembly and assembly.

    + Work with sourcing partners to drive procurement and vendor development, and to facilitate fabrication and assembly of R&D test fixtures.

    + Assist R&D Engineers with test method/fixture ideation and development.

    + Reverse engineer medical devices by translating 3D scan point cloud data into parametric 3D CAD models.

    + Conduct geometric comparison studies to establish component interchangeability.

    + Design/Develop and create 3D parametric models of medical device components from proof of concept to production ready designs, including DFM considerations for injection molding, machining and 3D printing.

    + Create 2D drawing packages of test fixtures and medical device assemblies and components per appropriate ASME drawing standards.

    + Oversee 3D scanning and 3D printing activities.

    + Determine and implement design approaches and parameters and conduct feasibility studies on new designs, analyze test equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental tests and evaluate the results. Lead and/or participate in design review meetings.

    + Support investigation and root cause analysis of test anomalies, customer complaints and field returns using engineering analysis techniques and problem-solving methodologies.

    1 In compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), responsible for collecting plasma samples and moving plasma units to freezer to ensure product quality.

    2 Ensures plasma units are properly stored according to SOPs, which could include unsuitable plasma units and samples.

    3 Ensures accuracy of unit labeling by verifying the pre-printed label matches the dynamic label.
