This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Geologist/Hydrogeologist for our Phoenix, AZ and/or Tucson, AZ office(s). Your Impact

+ Working within our Mine Water Team on hydrogeology projects within the mining industry and beyond

+ Field data collection planning and implementation in support of hydrogeologic interpretation including geologic logging of boreholes, geotechnical investigations, monitoring well installation, oversight of hydraulic tests, and groundwater and surface water sampling and flow measurements with an emphasis on preparation, installation, and ongoing monitoring and maintenance of field instrumentation for groundwater and surface water monitoring.

+ Utilize the latest technologies and techniques to interpret hydrogeologic and hydrologic data using data manipulation tools while maintaining quality control standards and procedures.

+ Supervision of drilling and construction/remediation contractors, collection of soil, rock, and groundwater samples, and other tasks in support of a wide variety of projects and environmental investigations.

+ Contribute to large, cross functional and multidisciplinary projects with on-call components while working with engineers, GIS specialists, and other environmental experts.

+ Communicate and document site conditions, observations, and activities.

+ Understand the regulatory environment to successfully complete project work.

Who You Are

**Required Qualifications**

+ Bachelor's Degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Geological Engineering, or closely related discipline.

+ 0 to 1 year of relevant post-education experience.

+ Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel.

+ Strong analytical skills including the ability to complete engineering calculations and analyses.

+ Strong written and verbal communication skills.

+ Ability to work both independently and on teams.

+ Comfortable working in remote settings.

Stantec’s thriving environmental and brownfield revitalization practice in the southwest is looking for an experienced Project Environmental Geologist/Scientist/Project Manager to join our team. Our Environmental Services team is growing, and we have a need for a project manager with 10 to 15 years of experience in the environmental field and a strong interest in both environmental assessment/cleanup and community revitalization. This team member will be primarily focused on due diligence and brownfield revitalization work but may explore opportunities within our broader ES team including projects in complex assessment and remediation, resiliency, and compliance.

Well-qualified candidates will have experience/familiarity in implementing and managing environmental due diligence, assessment, and remediation projects. Strong writing and communication skills are critical, as is an understanding of effective project management concepts and approaches. This position will be mainly office-based in Chandler, Arizona or Colorado Springs, Colorado but may include occasional Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessment field work in Arizona, New Mexico and/or Colorado.

**Your Key Responsibilities**

+ Manage environmental due diligence, assessment, cleanup, and revitalization projects with attention to safety, quality, detail, budget, and deadlines

+ Oversee staff completing Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, asbestos and lead-based paint sampling projects providing guidance on scope, schedule, and budget, and providing senior review of deliverables

+ Prepare environmental work plans, Phase I and II ESA and Regulated Building Survey reports, budgets, schedules and provide quality reviews of documents prepared by others

+ Prepare proposals and other marketing materials

+ Assist with preparing grant applications to fund environmental projects

+ Occasional (up to several days per month) environmental assessment field work in Arizona, New Mexico and/or Colorado including:

+ Scoping and scheduling field investigations

+ Overseeing drilling crews

+ Collecting environmental (soil, groundwater, soil gas, air, asbestos, etc.) samples

**Here’s what you’ll need** :

+ Bachelor’s or advanced degree in geophysics, engineering geology, applied mathematics or closely related technical field.

+ Academic or industry experience in collecting and processing of a comprehensive range of land-based near surface geophysical data including seismic, EM, GPR, magnetic, gravity and resistivity for geotechnical and environmental applications.

+ Working knowledge applying specific data processing software

+ Ability and willingness to travel (estimated up to 40%) and sometimes for extended periods of time.

Perform a comprehensive range of geophysical technologies in support of geologic, groundwater, environmental, engineering, and materials testing investigations. Perform non-invasive geophysical surveys from the ground surface as well as geophysical logging in boreholes to provide images or models of subsurface conditions. Define survey objectives, design survey approaches, analyze the resulting geophysical data, and provide interpretation of results. Results are incorporated into the planning, design and construction of vital infrastructure such as roads, tunnels, airports, landfills, water supplies, and other facilities; the assessment of environmental conditions; and the evaluation of earth resources. Geophysics supports all of Terracon’s service lines.

**Description**

Under close supervision, provide technical support related to design, construction, and operation of tailings impoundments, crushed leach pads, water dams, and related facilities and serve as resource for technical information and analysis.

**What You Will Do**

+ Under supervision of a Senior Geologist, complete logging of drill samples, geologic mapping, sampling and assist in the completion of resource block models.

+ Perform logging of core and reverse circulation drill cuttings.

+ Perform geologic mapping of surface and underground areas.

+ Assist Senior Geologist with the interpretation of all geological data (e.g., rock type, alteration and structure), assay, and mineralogical data into internally consistent cross sections and level plans.

+ Work with a team of Geologists in the completion of computerized resource block models that meet corporate modeling standards.

+ Prepare and update drill hole database, maps of deposits and other exploration records.

+ Perform rock chip sampling or soil surveys.
