    Banner Boswell Medical Center is in Sun City, AZ and has been the anchor of community health for over 40 years specializing in diseases of the elderly. The Emergency Department (ED) primarily cares for adults in need of emergency services. Pediatrics are also treated and either discharged home or transferred to an accepting pediatric center.

    As our ED Technician you will be part of a strong collaborative team, providing constant communication and updates to RN, Physicians and other providers related to patient updates. You will set up, prepare and assist with patient exams and minor surgical or health procedures. We are looking for an individual with strong communication skills, the ability to multi-task thrives best under busy environments. The hours are full-time, Night Shift opening for 3 shifts per week which will include weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. You will have the opportunity to enjoy our self-scheduling tool as well as a flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential. Hours will be from 6pm-6:30am

    POSITION SUMMARY

    This position is responsible for providing patient care and assists health care providers in performing assigned patient procedures within scope of training. Position receives general supervision from RN, APN, PA, or Physician in providing patient care.

    CORE FUNCTIONS

    1. Under general supervision of the RN, APN, PA, or Physician, performs assigned procedures including, but not limited to: electrocardiogram testing (EKG); wound cleansing; initial, repeat and orthostatic vital sign measurements; application of monitor leads, specimen collection, and transports stable telemetry or non-monitored patients to nursing units. Advanced skills and functions: Where state statute permits, performs blood glucose testing; phlebotomy; saline lock insertion; IV discontinuation; bladder (Foley) catheterization. After training in these advanced skills the ED Tech may perform these functions per state and facility guidelines on adult patients and pediatric patients twelve years of age and older upon direct delegation of the task.

    2. Sets up, prepares patient and assists with patient exam and minor surgical or health procedures within scope of training such as, but not limited to: lumbar punctures; sterile instrument and field preparation, suturing lacerations, chest tube insertion, closed fracture reduction, gastric lavage, pelvic examinations, restraint application, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Applies orthopedic devices, to include pre-manufactured and plaster splints under physician direction.

    3. Performs specimen collection, ensuring accuracy in identification and integrity by using appropriate techniques for all age criteria as required by Lab. Where state statute permits, performs point of care testing for blood glucose, hemoccult and gastroccult or other tests, and performs quality control checks on point of care equipment as required.

    4. Provides communication and updates to RN, Physician or other providers related to perceived reactions or changes to patients’ condition. Accurately records information in the patient record, documents vital signs and procedures completed, as well as the equipment and techniques utilized.

    5. Monitors supply stock levels and reports needs. Notifies housekeeping, maintenance, biomedical engineering, and others to ensure proper equipment and a safe environment is maintained. Maintains appropriate levels of stock in medication room, exam room bedside carts, and specialty carts. Assists with health unit coordination tasks and reception responsibilities as needed.

    6. Attends department meetings and educational sessions; Assists in orienting and training of new ED Technicians.

    7. Position receives general supervision from RN, APN, PA, or Physician and other appropriate licensed health professionals. Position uses problem solving skills and provides effective communication with patients, patient families, health care providers and ancillary departments within the organization to provide quality patient care.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.

    Requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Either Emergency Medical Technician–Basic (EMT-B) or higher with state licensure or state certification, or Certified Nursing Assistant in state of practice is required for new hires and transfers. In Colorado: Either Emergency Medical Technician–Basic (EMT-B) or higher with state licensure or state certification.

    **Job Description**

    1 Promotes positive customer relations with all donors.

    2 Conducts confidential and effective interviews with donors to obtain necessary information regarding suitability to donate plasma.

    3 In conjunction with the Center Medical Director and/or Center Physician responds to medically related questions from staff including donor suitability and provides information to staff on medically related issues.

    4 Performs medical history reviews and health assessments on donors. Assesses results of donor screening and laboratory tests to determine initial and continuing donor suitability.

    5 Notifies and counsels donors regarding reactive test results. Refers donors to community facilities for follow-up and counseling.

    6 Explains informed consent to applicant donors. This includes explanation of procedures, hazards and potential adverse events; explanation of immunization schedules, dose and antibody response; providing clear opportunity for donor to refuse participation; obtaining signature and date certifying informed consent.

    7 Handles medical emergencies at the Center by providing routine care as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); elevates situations to Center Physician or local medical service providers as required. Periodically checks emergency kits to assure supplies are present and in-date.

    8 Reviews test results and determines continued donor suitability. Follows SOPs regarding acceptable ranges of four-month required test (PE/STS) reports. Maintains knowledge of and apply all rules regarding four-month approvals and grace periods.

    9 Assess signs and symptoms a donor may exhibit that may result in the inability to continue donating.

    10 Manages employee hepatitis B and influenza immunization program, including administration of immunizations.

    11 Understands the policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs at the center where applicable, and oversees donor immunization programs. Reviews antibody titer results as required. Maintains awareness of appropriate immunization schedule for each antigen.

    12 Ensures the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in the SOPs.

    13 Maintains clean efficient work environment, and ensures sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed. Follows all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures. Promotes safety in all actions. May conduct routine audits of these internal procedures and documentation.

    14 Maintains confidentiality of all personnel, donor and center information.

    15 May be cross-trained in other areas to meet the needs of the business.

    16 Bilingual skills may be required, at the discretion of the organization, to meet the needs of the business.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    This position ensures that the organization is compliant with state health department requirements, policies and procedures of EMS/prehospital care.

    CORE FUNCTIONS

    1. Participates in hospital and medical staff meetings as required, including but not limited to AZ Emergency Medical Services (AEMS), diversion task force, police, fire, ambulance companies, urgent care centers, and skilled nursing facilities.

    2. Maintains current knowledge of the JACHO, CMS, and state health department regulatory requirements. Serves as a resource for staff positions and clinical directors of emergency centers regarding regulations. Oversees Pre-hospital contracts for Compliance.

    3. Completes and compiles the required and requested reports and record keeping as needed. Reports include but are not limited to EMS diversion reports and Ryan White reports.

    4. May work with pre-hospital providers to coordinate or provide education which may include core and/or protocol competency, continuing education, and base station orientation.

    5. Provides continuing education to staff and physicians as it relates to prehospital protocol and communication tools including radio competency and etiquette, including Emergency Management Resource System, patient tracking, program updates, bed count, and diversion. Oversees maintenance of communication equipment.

    6. Provides appropriate follow-up for staff, physicians and EMS agencies. Oversees problem resolution process for identified issues.

    7. Develops and implements Emergency Medical Services policy and procedures for Banner Health. Reviews policies and procedures annually.

    8. Oversees Quality Management program as required by contracts. Conducts quality review of prehospital patient care and communication, including random tape review, for the standard of care protocol compliance and patient satisfaction.

    9.     POSITION SUMMARY

    This position is responsible for providing patient care and assists health care providers in performing assigned patient procedures within scope of training. Position receives general supervision from RN, APN, PA, or Physician in providing patient care.

    1.
