Major Duties: You will perform work as a certified Emergency Medical Technician- Paramedic within the Division of Resource and Visitor Protection, operating independently to make patient care decisions. Respond to medical emergencies involving injured and ill persons, ranging from minor medical to life threatening emergencies in an out of hospital/field setting. Provide basic and advanced life support measures including I.V. therapy, drug therapy, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and advanced airway management in an out of hospital/field setting. Assist and mentor other park staff (AEMTs, EMTs, First Responders) in providing emergency medical services in the park. Operate and maintain the district's ambulance and related equipment. Cooperate with all EMS providers, including clinic staff, to provide medical care. Communicate with medical control to receive medical orders on patients. Assist in EMS training of park personnel at EMT refresher courses, EMS Endorsement, ambulance orientation, CPR, and other opportunities. Review park EMS run reports and assist with the parkwide quality assurance program. Provide assistance and input to the park EMS Coordinator on a variety of EMS issues. Operate Federal government vehicles. Complete all required medical forms and reports. May perform search and rescue, Wildland and Structural Fire, visitor assistance, and resource management work. Area Information: The North Rim District is situated on the rim of the Grand Canyon amidst the vast public lands of the Arizona Strip. It is about 20 miles from the South Rim by a strenuous hike through the Grand Canyon or a 215 mile drive which takes approximately 4 hours. The nearest community with full range of services is located in Kanab, UT approximately 80 miles from the North Rim. The elevation on the North Rim is about 8,200 feet and consequently the climate in the summer is mild with highs in the 80's and lows in the 50's. Between May 15 and October 15 the North Rim receives approximately 500,000 visitors. The North Rim has a robust concession operation which features a historic full service lodge with accommodations serving around 500 visitors, 230 concession employees, a general store, post office, mule ride concession, gas station, campground, etc. Beyond the North Rim Village the district has about 20 miles of paved scenic roads, 80 miles of high clearance 4 wheel drive roads, and hundreds of miles of trails/routes including immediate access to the North Kaibab Trail/cross-canyon corridor. Recreational opportunities include hiking, running, climbing, canyoneering, rafting, road/mountain biking, skiing, and numerous other options in nearby communities such as St. George, Utah and Page, Arizona. Zion National Park, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Vermillion Cliffs National Monument, and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument are all within a half day drive. Employees are assigned quarters, possibly shared, in a cabin, apartment, or house. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Going without sleep for long periods of time is a common occurrence. Incumbent must be able to fly in a helicopter or fixed wing aircraft without ill effects. The work involves extended periods of heavy moving and lifting of patients. Work Environment: Work Is performed in an office setting, medical clinic, ambulance, classroom, in the field, on trails, and in remote backcountry settings. On a regular and recurring basis employee is required to work in all types of weather conditions. EMS work involves frequent exposure to hazardous environments, hazardous flight landings and takeoffs, extremes in temperature, and exposure to communicable diseases. The employee is required to comply with use of various levels of personal protective clothing and special safety and health precautions.     POSITION SUMMARY

    4. Provides communication and updates to RN, Physician or other providers related to perceived reactions or changes to patients’ condition. Accurately records information in the patient record, documents vital signs and procedures completed, as well as the equipment and techniques utilized.

    5. Monitors supply stock levels and reports needs. Notifies housekeeping, maintenance, biomedical engineering, and others to ensure proper equipment and a safe environment is maintained. Maintains appropriate levels of stock in medication room, exam room bedside carts, and specialty carts. Assists with health unit coordination tasks and reception responsibilities as needed.

    6. Attends department meetings and educational sessions; Assists in orienting and training of new ED Technicians.

    7. Position receives general supervision from RN, APN, PA, or Physician and other appropriate licensed health professionals. Position uses problem solving skills and provides effective communication with patients, patient families, health care providers and ancillary departments within the organization to provide quality patient care.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.

    Requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
