Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Therapy Manager, the Recreation Therapist completes recreation therapy intake assessments and documentation, developing and implementing therapeutic groups, maintaining weekly documentation, planning programs and special events, actively participating in department staff meetings and coordinating agency wide events.
+ Requires a Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field.
+ Must have a minimum of one (1) year of progressively responsible experience assisting with recreation activities for physically, mentally or socially disabled patients in a psychiatric setting that demonstrates an understanding of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
+ Prefer prior experience as a Recreation Therapy Assistant.

The Salvation Army is looking for an Activity Coordinator for the Laura Danieli Senior Activity Center. The successful candidate will be an outgoing, highly motivated individual dedicated to making a difference in the lives of seniors.
The Activity Coordinator will assist in the planning and execution of outreach activities and publicity of the senior programs and activities as outlined in the Area Agency for Aging contract. This includes, but not limited to, the distribution of program information to areas in program target areas as well as new participants. Coordinator will arrange for a variety of monthly health promotion programs designed to maintain or improve the health status of older individuals including, but not limited to drug and alcohol abuse including quarterly intergenerational programs. Provide monthly educational opportunities and arrange for speaker that will assist older individuals with their economic, health, and personal needs. Maintain statistical records, post activity sign-up sheets and produce reports as required by the Area Agency for Aging contract and the Salvation Army National Statistical System. Plan and implement special events, e.g. Night Out, Club Day, Christmas Party, Volunteer Recognition, etc. This includes, but not limited to, arranging for special guests. Prepare the monthly activity calendar ONE MONTH IN ADVANCE and submit it for approval. Keep the craft room area and supplies clean and organized. Attend the monthly Activity Committee Meetings. Conduct three (3) home visits per week and make follow up telephone calls to new and/or prospective participants, documenting the date of contacts. Encourage and motivate seniors to participate in activities. Assist the staff in any and all program areas when requested and as the need arises as it related to the position of Activity Coordinator.

This position is responsible for the planning of scheduled recreational activities which meets physical, mental, psychosocial needs and interests of patients. Resposibilities Include but are not limited to:

Responsible for implementing the day to day Resident activities using a Montessori method of dementia care. Designed to fulfill a variety of needs and interests based on each individual’s history and meaningful life events. Responsible for resident satisfaction and retention through the development and management of life enrichment programs. Act as a positive representative for the community to residents, employees, visitors, the pubic, and other activities related to the promotion of the organization. Work effectively as part of a team by sharing ideas, helping others develop ideas, and evaluating proposed courses of action.
+ Plan, coordinates, and implements the resident’s activities to meet physical, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and social needs as defined by the Montessori Method.
+ Work closely with the Department Heads to coordinate space, equipment, food, and transportation for planned events and activities.
+ Maintain a safe activities program, including driving, events, space, planning, mobility.
+ Act as a liaison between residents and the Administrator, RN, or the Resident Care Coordinator.
+ Responsible for the smooth, efficient, and positive operation of planned events.
+ Responsible for resident satisfaction and retention through the development of appropriate and timely activities that meet the needs of the Resident population.
+ Evaluate the capabilities, needs, and interests of new Residents and periodically of each resident.
+ Decorate the common areas appropriately for the time and season.
+ Maintain and work within the department budget.
+ Work cooperatively with other employees, management, residents, and their families.
+ Maintain a positive attitude in all aspects of your day to day activities, and represent the organization in a positive light during all events.
+ Complete other tasks assigned by the Administrator.
+ participate in on-site training as requested.
+ Assist as needed with marketing events
+ Become a full participant in the success of the organization through customer services, promotion and recruitment of new residents.
+ Excellent interpersonal skills with those inside and outside the organization including residents, their families, volunteers, management, civic organizations, community, and agencies
+ Maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities
+ Communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
+ Knowledge of principles and practices of Residents’ needs
+ Ability to assist with budget development for the department
+ Skill in problem-solving, and the ability to remain poised in emergencies
+ Ability to understand and work under a variety of situations in a positive, constructive manner
+ Ability to be creative and innovative in creative activities techniques
+ Knowledge to be organized, well prepared, set and meet deadlines
+ Ability to do some daily tasks via computer, i.e., emails, calendars, flyers, etc.
+ Ability to continue education in the industry and make sure new programs are developed to meet the changing demographics in the resident population.
+ One or more years of prior industry experience preferred
+ Valid drivers license and acceptable motor vehicle history
+ Required to participate in Covid-19 testing as requested by administration, ownership or the State Regulatory Agencies.
+ Required to receive or provide documentation of the Covid-19 Vaccine, excluding religious or medical exemptions.
+ Required to receive the annual Flu vaccine, excluding religious or medical exemptions.
