    Summary The purpose of this position is to provide electrical, electronics, and electro-mechanical expertise to the operation and maintenance of the four 12-meter aperture Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes in the VERITAS array; and to the continued development and evaluation of its prototype Schwarzschild-Couder Telescope--a next generation gamma ray instrument. Responsibilities 1. Devises and develops a variety of new—or modifications to existing--electronic and electro-mechanical systems, equipment, and practices that will optimize the performance of instrumentation that facilitates the astronomical research programs of the VERITAS Observatory. Performs troubleshooting, electronics testing, calibration, and optical alignment and characterization in support of telescope operations. 2. Designs, fabricates, installs, commissions, and maintains a variety of electronic, electrical, and electro-mechanical systems and components for use at VERITAS. These include: multi-layer circuit boards and associated chassis; high and low voltage, and uninterruptible power-supplies; telescope mount control systems including servo-controllers, cabling, motors and safety interlocks; chillers and other environmental control systems; and test and calibration instruments and systems. Evaluates commercially available systems and components and determines if they will satisfy technical requirements or if a custom built system is necessary. 3. Participates in the development or modification of instrumentation from conception to operation and maintenance. Develops schematics, documentation, and test procedures when they are either unavailable or inadequate. 4. Writes component command and control software utilizing languages such as Python. Participates with VERITAS IT staff in developing new software and modifying application programs in data taking systems to facilitate telescope operations, maintenance, and calibration. Provides direction to software developers such as students from collaborating institutions as required. 5. Manages the gamma-ray electronics and mechanical shop and ensures that all equipment is operational and that supplies are stocked or ordered as needed. 6.     Summary

    Under general supervision safely maintain, install, repair and troubleshoot multiple types of electrical systems and equipment in support of a processing site.

    + Removal, repair and installation of electrical systems and components within the following areas and systems: SX/EW, leach area, packing area, air, water and power line systems. Perform equipment electrical analysis and diagnosis, advanced troubleshooting and systems/process optimization

    **Description**

    A Line Electrician safely performs duties relating to the construction and maintenance of high and low voltage power transmission lines and related structures and system components.

    + Perform duties associated with the extension and cutback of power lines and various distribution service lines for the site, mine, mobile equipment and substations

    + Tasks may include but are not limited to test, frame, and set poles; string electric power lines, install cross arms and anchors, replaces switches, and circuit protection equipment, etc.

    + Perform power line and system preventative maintenance

    + Troubleshoot system faults on power distribution lines

    + Perform construction and maintenance of high or low voltage electric power lines and structures

    + May install and maintain:

    + Distribution transmissions systems including substations, substation equipment, single and banked transformers and services

    + General area lighting and perform maintenance of single and banked transformers and services

    + Secondary and primary customer metering

    + Mentor or train other electrical workers and perform as a Fill-In Supervisor as needed

    + May perform groundman duties such as gathering materials, running equipment, etc.

    **Qualifications**

    **Minimum Qualifications**

    + Completion of an approved Lineman Apprentice program, OR

    + Minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Lineman, OR

    + Associate’s degree or Trade School Certification in a related field and two (2) years of experience in overhead and underground power distribution, construction, maintenance and repair

    + Valid State Driver’s License with the ability to obtain a CDL certification within 90 days of hire date

    + Knowledge of rubber gloving, sticking, and livewire maintenance

    + Must be proficient in lock out, tag out, try out (LOTOTO)

    + Ability to work out of a bucket for long periods of time

    + Adequate score on Companywide assessment test to demonstrate knowledge

    + Proficiency in troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of overhead power distribution of electrical circuits and connected equipment, focusing on low and medium voltage; this includes the ability to read, understand and apply information from technical manuals, prints, and schematics for trouble shooting and repair

    + Effective written and verbal communication skills

    + Knowledge of NFPA-70E arc flash electrical safety standards

    + Be able to provide validation that you are experienced in performing energized line work by rubber glove technique or hot stick

    Skilled worker in the electrical/instrumentation field whose duties include, but are not limited to the removal, repair and installation of electrical components and basic to intermediate troubleshooting.

    Responsibilities

    + Complete work orders and repairs in a timely and thorough manner, maintaining cost effectiveness in repairs for industrial, kitchen and residential electrical and gas fired equipment and facilities.

    + Evaluate condition of equipment and make recommendations for repair or replacement. Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus; electrical and gas components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of the malfunction and correct the problem.
