    Grand Canyon University is currently seeking a full-time Painter to prepare and paint a variety of interior and exterior surfaces. This position will perform routine and small-effort general maintenance as needed.

    Responsibilities:

    + Patches, paints and/or applies finishes to various types of internal and external hard surfaces.

    + Ensures that each job site is left clean and free of all painting equipment and tools upon completion of the task.

    + Properly stores paint containers and related supplies; properly disposes of brushes and other paint-related waste.

    + Order supplies according to established procedures.

    + Maintains logs and records as required related to work orders and unscheduled work as required.

    + Assesses any damages to internal and external hard surfaces and identifies type of repair work needed.

    + Responds to emergency needs and requests within designated time frames.

    Summary

    The Campus Facilities Painter performs skilled painting work on interior and exterior elements of the beautiful Midwestern University campuses.     Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    + Read and/or interpret blueprints, sketches, instructions or layouts to understand work to be done.

    + Performs skilled painting work in the preparation, patching, finishing, and maintaining of all building structures, walls, woodwork, furniture, and equipment by inspecting the worksite to determine the materials, equipment, tools, and method to be used.

    + Prepares surfaces for painting using sandpaper, power sanders, steel wool, wire brushes, paint removers, filling nail holes, cracks, or joints with putty, plaster, or other fillers, applying paints, stains, varnishes, enamel, or lacquer using paint brushes, rollers, and/or sprayers.

    + Erects, repairs maintains and operates staging, rigging and scaffolding following accepted safety practices in order to gain access to areas needing paint.

    + Prepares surfaces for plaster or cement work by taping joints on sheetrock, caulking and waterproofing walls and cracks in floors, etc. by using appropriate tools and equipment.

    + Selects the types and color of paints, varnish or stain, and mixes, blends and prepares the same for proper color match.

    + Applies paints, varnishes, and/or stains to all types of surfaces (e.g. wood, metal, plaster, etc.) in order to protect and beautify such surfaces using appropriate utensils and equipment such as paint spraying machines.

    + Operates, cleans and maintains hand and power tools, air compressors and painting equipment as required.

    + Performs related duties such as preparing various reports; maintaining records and files; setting up signs and barricades; reading instructions on layouts; removing and placing glass; drilling holes in signs; printing letters and signs; laying out drop cloths; and moving office furniture.

    + Provides technical assistance in the purchase of new or replacement painting shop tools and equipment by being knowledgeable of the capabilities of various types of equipment and recommending the purchase of painting tools and equipment that meet the needs of the paint shop.

    + Removes rust from metal, and grease and dirt from work surface prior to painting

    + Masks and protects parts that are not to be painted or coated

    + Fills cavities and dents with appropriate filler material to attain smooth surface

    + Mixes paint according to manufacturer's specifications

    + Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce desired color

    + Paints surface using sprayer or brush as appropriate to achieve quality repair

    + Inspects painted units for quality of workmanship, noting any runs, sags, and unpainted area and corrects

    + Heats and sprays wax or other appropriate coatings onto vehicles and products after they are tested

    + Operates all required equipment to perform necessary repairs in a safe manner and in accordance with company policies and applicable local, state and federal regulations

    + Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer and in accordance with company policies

    + Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials. Reports any deviations to management immediately

    + Communicates with service advisor and/or dispatcher if additional work is needed

    + Ensures that customer vehicles kept clean during repair process

    + Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended and communicates this information as needed to appropriate body shop or service personnel

    + Verifies that repairs and painting are complete and to quality standards prior to submitting for final approval

    + Contains costs by using warranty or insurance as needed; evaluating service and parts options for repairs

    + Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt of parts, paints and supplies

    + Maintain a clean, efficient work area and assist in keeping the shop neat and organized

    + Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order in accordance with operating procedures

    + Understands the terminology of the automobile business and keep abreast of technology changes

    + Follows all attendance and punctuality standards with adherences to timekeeping standards; Employees are required to record the beginning and ending times of any shift, break or departure from work for personal reasons

    + Follows the Company Code of Business Ethics and Conduct

    + Understands and follow all work rules and procedures and follows lawful directions from Supervisors

    + Upholds the company's non-disclosure and confidentiality policies and agreements

    + Maintains a professional appearance in accordance with company policy

    + Attends pertinent training on request

    + Attends company meetings as required
