OVERVIEW

To repair, construct and alter wooden structures throughout the district to be completed safely and within established time frames.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school education or equivalent required
Valid Arizona driver’s license
Minimum five years carpenter experience
Working knowledge of tools, materials, methods and safe working practices of the carpenter trade
Ability to read and work from blueprints and to layout work assignment
Ability to care for equipment and tools
Computer proficiency to include use of basic software applications (Word, Excel, gmail, etc)
Ability to lift and /or to move up to 100 pounds and to work at various heights
Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) and to work well with coworkers and district personnel
Ability to work overtime and to change schedules with minimal notice; willingness to work non-regular hours (weekends, night shift, swing shift, holidays)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Repair, construct and alter wooden structures (i.e. partitions, counters, doors, prefab furniture, window frames, concrete forms, furnish door hardware and suspended ceiling systems)
Perform mill and cabinet work; build closets, bookcases and shelving
Install acoustical tiles, floor tile, baseboard and trim, ceramic tile, tack boards and marker boards
Operate floor sanding equipment, lathes, planes, joiners, band saws, power tools and other woodworking equipment
Cut glass for desk tops; cut and/or install mirrors; repair existing windows
Regular and on-time attendance required
Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

Perform repairs to various types or roof systems (i.e. build-up, shingles and single-ply)
May prepare working drawings from sketches
May direct the work of helpers
Help write job scopes and specifications
May supervise outside contractors
Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
SUPERVISION

Structural Tech Lead

Prior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period, drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work in Transportation. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.
