Technical Consultant - Heavy Industry
INTEREP     Phoenix, AZ 80401 (Telecommute)

People are more likely to label you a tradesman than a salesperson. The big difference with you is, you’re not content to fix a piece of equipment and walk away, you’re driven to understand exactly why it failed, and help others avoid that same issue in the future.

STOP READING THIS AND GO LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE UNLESS YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING:

A desire to solve problems and sell in heavy industrial facilities (not just in a nice clean welding shop, but out in the field, where you need OSHA-30, Site-Specific, steel toed boots, safety glasses, and maybe even a respirator)
A basic ability to read and understand construction drawings
The confidence it takes to meet with everyone from the welding foreman to the engineering engineering-manager, and the humility to ask questions and learn from them
An insatiable desire to understand how things work

If you’re the kind of person who dives deep into the details to become an expert in your craft, craves training and information up-front so that you can work independently on the back end, and strives to be considered a subject-matter-expert by your customers and peers alike, then we’d like to talk with you. I’m CJ Horecky, a 4th generation son of American Industry. I lead the team of process experts at INTEREP, who are fighting every day to Rebuild American Industry. I’m not the one you’re going to report to, but I take a personal stake in every member of our team, and I’m writing this job-ad because I care about who you are, not just what you do. We are looking for team members who will PERFORM:

PERFORM

Performance Under Pressure: We excel under high-pressure situations, 24/7, prioritizing respectful communication while delivering the right product, at the right place, at the right time.
Eternal Perspective: With an eye to the long-term, we choose the right path over the quick fix, ensuring our actions can always stand up to scrutiny.

Rigor: We stand out through our meticulous attention to detail, catching what others miss to provide peace of mind to all stakeholders.
Foresight: We shrewdly share information with external entities, preserving our internal advantages while maintaining absolute honesty in our dealings.

Ownership: We cultivate a culture of Extreme Ownership, encouraging transparency, honesty, humility, and vulnerability within our team.
Responsiveness: Always organized and ahead of the curve, we're prepared to respond swiftly and proactively to needs, always prioritizing communication and fast response times.

Make Money Together: We uphold a belief in collective success, understanding that when one wins, we all win, and reflect this in our compensation structure.

I’m not going to waste your time with a bunch of tedious questions and covers letters, etc. The odds are this isn’t the position for you. It takes a special person to enjoy the unique culture of INTEREP, it’s gonna turn a lot of people off. If you want to find out if we’re a fit for you, just take this quick 6 minute survey (https://go.cultureindex.com/p/8CXin3rPL0m) to be considered. It’ll ask for your cover letter (optional) and resume (required - I assume you’ve got one, or you wouldn’t be reading this post).

Details on the position:

You've got the mechanical mindset that loves to solve problems, and you recognize that getting to the right solution requires a good salesperson to help customers break through mental barriers. There will be times that you are the reason that an oil refinery starts back up on time, or that rolling blackouts are narrowly avoided in Phoenix or Los Angeles. You will be a hero to your customers, you will help keep American industry running. That's not always comfortable, you'll find yourself supervising installers while in full coveralls and a respirator when it's 120 degrees. There will be times the water in your shower will run black with coal dust from your hair when you jump in at 1:00am at a hotel in the middle of nowhere. You're not going to do this because it's easy, you don't do easy things anyway. You're going to do this because you want work that means something, that's needed, that you can see the result of, and that gets you up in the morning, excited to conquer another day.

Sure, you'll have a flexible schedule, unlimited vacation, work from home, and get to enjoy the occasional fancy dinner with customers or colleagues, but you're not going to take this job because of that. Those are just perks. You're going to take it because you give a damn and want to work on a team that shares your desire for meaningful work.

We sell to heavy industrial customers who demand high reliability, are usually in a hurry, and who want to do things right the first time. We sell Peace of Mind. We are consummate sales professionals who put our steel-toed boots on, jump in the car, and get in front of our customers to understand and solve their issues in person. We don't show up to shake hands or drop off flyers, we deliver value every time our customers see us, whether that means performing inspections, offering technical presentations, or just poring over drawings and troubleshooting around the conference table.

What your work week will look like:

You’re gonna need a nice home office setup, when you’re there (usually Mondays & Fridays) you’ll meet daily with our all-remote team for a quick 15-minute morning huddle, other times it will be from your car (usually Tuesday-Thursday), but you’ll get to voice your priorities for the day and make sure our engineering and sales support teams are backing you up while you’re out in the field, or on the phone with customers. You’ll fill your schedule each week with meeting key decision makers at major industrial facilities (cement plants, oil refineries, power plants, chemical plants, large food & beverage installations, etc. - anything with high heat, corrosion, or pressure). You’ll get in front of them, walk the plants, find and indicate potential problems to the customer, and turn those problems into opportunities to quote. When you find opportunities, you’ll bring all the data to our engineering team, and they’ll engineer and price out a solution for you to offer to the customer. You don’t have to do your own quotes; your time is better used solving problems.
