Summary The Lead Housekeeping Aid position is located at the VA Health Care System main facility. This position performs both janitorial and custodial services. Responsibilities As the Housekeeping Aid Leader you will be responsible for passing on instructions from the supervisor to the workers; answering questions; working with and setting the pace; demonstrating methods and techniques and providing follow up to insure compliance. Duties include, but are not limited to: Leads three or more employees in accomplishing work related to housekeeping duties. Passes on instructions from the supervisor to the workers, answers questions, and works with and sets the pace. Maintaining hospital wards in medical, surgical and psychiatric areas, clinics, administrative areas, lobbies, lounges, recreation areas, halls and corridors. Removes soiled and contaminated linens from work area to soiled linen rooms. Dust mopping, damp or wet mopping, trash collection and removal, cleaning and disinfecting toilets, showers and bathrooms. Stripping and refinishing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets. Checks work to see that supervisor's orders are being carried out, reports the status and progress of work. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposed to varying degrees of heat and cold as well as inclement weather. PPE may be required in some circumstance as exposure to possible contagious diseases, blood and bloody secretion are inherent to this position. Care is required to avoid serious injuries (i.e., broken bones) when working on ladders, or when using 30-100-pound power equipment or handling hazardous materials. Additional Information This occupation is currently approved for a Veterans Health Administration enterprise-wide Critical Skills Incentive. Candidates may be eligible for a lump sum CSI for a pro-rated amount if onboard prior to the CSI expiration date.
