**Summary:**

The Devices Sustainability Team is responsible for gathering data to understand our carbon impact, defining leading-edge criteria, and influencing hardware design to reduce carbon emissions in alignment with Meta’s 2030 Net Zero Commitment. As a Lead Systems Engineer focused on leading Devices sustainability efforts, you will take a critical role in influencing system design of VR, AR, and New Technology Initiatives to drive carbon reduction. You will influence teams developing product concepts through prototyping and validation for consumer electronics. You are someone who works well in teams, can brainstorm big ideas, work in new technology areas, thrive in ambiguity, and envision opportunities for carbon reduction during system architecture. Our ideal candidate has strong electrical engineering fundamentals, excellent technical understanding of consumer electronics across the stack, and experience implementing sustainability Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) tools.

**Required Skills:**

Systems Engineering Sustainability Lead, Reality Labs Devices Responsibilities:

1. Adopt a leading role in technical delivery of carbon reduction solutions in complex system architectures in collaboration with Systems Engineering technical leads

2. Ability to work collaboratively with experts in different fields to make architectural tradeoffs that reduce carbon emissions

3. Work closely with Systems Engineering to help develop Functional Requirements and Engineering Requirements supporting sustainability goals

4. Expert technical communication with cross-functional teams across hardware engineering, Industrial Design, partnerships, and supply chain to drive carbon reduction in electrical systems from proof of concept through mass production

5. Own implementation of technical systems that analyze carbon impact of consumer devices during the product development process and support the analysis of proposed system architecture requirements against carbon reduction goals

6. Influence and design new methodologies for sustainability measurement, collect and analyze data, and present recommendations to leadership team

7. Act as a subject matter expert in sustainable design of consumer electronics and mentor and educate team members across Reality Labs

8. Build the bridge between Devices sustainability, Net Zero, and direct engineering teams to influence roadmaps and champion a sustainable design process

9. Support Extended Producer Reporting (EPR) initiatives

10. ~10% international or domestic travel

**Minimum Qualifications:**

11. BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, other related technical field, or equivalent industry experience

12. 7+ years of product experience in electrical, semiconductor, wireless or related engineering fields

13. Experience working in the following areas: semiconductors, sensors, audio, thermal systems and/or materials

14. Experience working with Product Development engineers, Product Managers, Global Supply Managers, and other hardware and software cross-functional teams

15. Expertise in sustainability analysis for electrical systems including Life Cycle Assessments and associated tool implementation

16. 10+ years of product experience in electrical, silicon or wireless engineering, including full hardware architecture experience

17. Hardware system leadership experience developing high volume consumer electronics

18. Experience developing novel end-to-end system architectures spanning compute, displays/optics, EE, sensors, and firmware for new products from initial conception through prototyping, validation, and production ramp

19. Experience in firmware development, programming, computer vision, OS, game development, wireless protocols and complex sensing systems

20. Experience modeling system power, and using those models to inform trade-offs against key architectural decisions (e.g. battery life, thermals, silicon roadmaps, power load profiles)

21. Understanding of memory subsystems and their impacts on overall system performance

22. Experience or knowledge of sustainable solutions and trends within EE and Silicon industries

**Public Compensation:**

$204,000/year to $281,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
