Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation is responsible for designing, building, and operating our unified global datacenters, managing the supply planning and capacity utilization of our unified infrastructure, and is responsible for all of the operations needed to run the physical infrastructure (including supply chain, hardware, power, security, and workflow teams).

The CO+I Infrastructure, Planning & Acquisitions (IPA) Long-Range Planning Data Science team delivers Microsoft’s Long Range Infrastructure plan using state of the art econometric/ML models, risk simulations and business intelligence.

We are hiring an outstanding Principal Data and Applied Scientist Manager to lead our data engineering and systems team to focus on two key responsibilities: architect and expand our data science infrastructure to produce the Long Range Infrastructure plan, and to ensure our data science infrastructure is secure and compliant. Candidates for this position should have a proven track record of collaborating with a diverse set of stakeholders and team members to architect scalable, modular data science platforms for generating actionable insights. Candidates should also have a track record of commitment to secure, compliant computing.

**Responsibilities**

+ Architect, maintain, and expand our data science platform to empower our data scientists and stakeholders to produce the Long Range Infrastructure Plan

+ Collaborate with partner teams across the world to drive key features and improvements in our data science platform

+ Ensure our data science platform are secure and compliant

+ Lead a team of data engineers, who will be responsible for building and maintaining various components in the data science platform in collaboration with our larger team. Such components include data pipelines and APIs. The team is also responsible for managing assets and environments such as blob storage, sql database, key vault, azure data factory jobs, etc.

**Qualifications**

**Required Qualifications:**

+ Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

+ o OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

+ o OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

+ o OR equivalent experience.

+ 1+ year(s) people management experience.

**Other Requirements:**

These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ Proven experience in building, managing and/or leading an engineering team.

+ Experience using NuGet, pip, and CRAN; experience building R, Python, and C# .NET packages

+ Experience with building fault tolerant, robust, distributed computing systems

+ Familiarity with Microsoft Azure cloud services such as SQL Azure, Key Vault, Blob Storage, Service Bus, etc.

+ Familiarity with Microsoft Azure DataCenters

Applied Sciences M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
