Responsibilities Job Summary The employee assumes responsibility and accountability for incorporating the vision, values, mission, and critical goals of the organization into their job performance. Demonstrates intra-operative clinical competency, prioritization and problem solving skills during implementation of direct patient care under the supervision of the perioperative registered nurse (s). Provides and maintains an organized, sterile field of operation. Utilizes effective communication and interpersonal skills to enhance and encourage collaborative staff and community relationships. Scrubs and provides instruments, sutures and other sterile supplies during surgical procedures for all open-heart and vascular surgical procedures. Anticipates the needs for additional equipment, supplies and/or instruments by assessing specific patient, physician and procedure requirements and responds by meeting or communicating those needs using critical thinking skills. Demonstrates efficiency, productivity, and the ability to prepare for cases in a timely manner. Maintains accountability for perioperative departmental operating policies. Prepares for surgical procedures by selecting appropriate instruments and supplies and ensuring the working order of instruments. Demonstrates the principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the operative procedure (before, during and after). Assumes accountability for instrumentation and returns instrumentation to the decontamination room or Central Sterile Processing Department in an organized manner demonstrating knowledge of principles of instrument maintenance, and according to decontamination procedures and standards. Actively participates as a member of the health care team to include orientation and instruction of personnel functioning in the scrub role. Participates in the re-stocking and cleaning of ORs and equipment. Maintains a clean safe and orderly work environment and reports unsafe conditions. Participates in the planning, orienting, teaching, guiding, and evaluating the function and performance of staff and students. Utilizes material resources in a cost-effective manner, recommends cost-saving measures within the department or assigned area. Contributes to the recruitment and retention of talented staff through positive role-modeling, fostering peer relationships, and participating in preceptor and/or mentor programs thereby creating an environment for quality practice. Assumes responsibility for personal development by maintaining current knowledge of standards, patient care technology, and agency regulations. Participates in in-services, mandatory meetings and process improvement activities. Practice and performance reflects knowledge of relevant compliance, regulation, legislation certification, and HonorHealth System and department policies. Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED Required Experience Graduate of vocational Surgical Tech School or 3 years surgical tech experience Required 1 year open heart experience Required Licenses and Certifications Clinical Other\BCLS - Basic Life Support Required
