Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
The purpose of this position is:
Operate and perform most machine set ups and troubleshoot most tooling issues to produce high quality component parts and perform or assist in the maintenance of the machine and tooling used. Perform quality inspection of finished components throughout the process.
The CNC Set-Up Operator includes significant duties such as:
Set-up a minimum of one CNC machine per shift.
Read and interpret prints, routings, layouts, and related documents to produce component parts that meet design specifications to satisfy company quality standards.
Learn to write and-or edit existing machine programs on similar parts to produce component parts that meet design specifications in order to satisfy company quality standards.
Set-up and operate most CNC jobs routed to the assigned machines with some assistance and meet the production standard required for the given department.
Perform various CNC machine functions such as turning, drilling, reaming, threading.
Check work within close tolerances and inspect component parts to print using micrometers, calipers, thread gauges, plug gauges, comparator, etc. throughout the process.
Complete necessary paperwork daily.
Perform routine preventive maintenance on most CNC machine repairs on assigned machines and maintain proper coolant levels and concentrations daily.
Troubleshoot most CNC machine and tooling problems and correct as necessary with some assistance.
Maintain safety and quality standards using acceptable housekeeping practices on equipment and work area.
Train lesser skilled machine operators on machine operations and procedures.
Working Conditions:
Frequent average effort in lifting, pushing, and pulling.
Some exposure to elements of cutting oil, coolant, noise, and wetness, none disagreeable. Machines include CNC Lathe, Deco, Stars, Citizen and Sprints. CNC Mills 4 and 5 Axis.
Shifts:
2nd shift: Monday-Thursday 5p-3:30am days switch after 5 weeks to Thursday-Sunday and switch back after another 5 weeks.
Overtime is required in increased business periods
Education:
Either a High School or General Education Diploma is required
Experience:
Minimum 5+ years’ set up experience
