Position Title: Trades/Maintenance Specialist - HVAC

Department: District Wide

Hourly Rate: Non-Exempt - B21-B23, DOE

Position Summary:

The Trades/Maintenance Specialist, performs various skilled trades and journey-level duties related to the maintenance and repair of commercial facilities, such as HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing systems, automotive, grounds keeping, central heating/cooling plan equipment, systems and auxiliary machinery.

The work schedule for this position may include working evenings and weekends. Local travel may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities:


* Perform installation, maintenance, and repairs to college facilities, equipment, and systems to ensure they are in working order
* Operate equipment including computerized energy management control systems (EMCS)
* Perform installation, repair and maintenance of direct expansion HVAC equipment
* Perform preventative maintenance and repair on HVAC and refrigeration equipment
* Set up recovery units, gauges, and refrigeration cylinders
* Read blueprints, schematic drawings, and/or construction drawings
* Estimate time and materials for assigned area
* Maintain and clean equipment
* Operate appropriate motor vehicles
* Follow applicable federal, state and local laws, codes, and regulations
* Assist with inventory of supplies and equipment to ensure adequate stock and functionality are maintained
* Use computers and applicable software, including facilities and maintenance software, word processing, databases, email, and calendaring
* Prepare and maintain a variety of reports and records
* Provide effective customer service
* Respond to customer issues, pages and emergency calls for repair on a 24-hour basis, including being subject to callbacks and serving on a rotating on-call roster
* Communicate clearly both orally and in writing sufficient to receive and convey instructions to perform the duties of the job
* Function as a team member, to include cross training with other operations and maintenance staff

Job Requirements:


* High School diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED) and
* Completion of an approved technical/vocational/apprenticeship program and
* Possession of a valid Arizona Driver's License and demonstration of an acceptable driving record and
* Universal EPA Certificate-HVAC-Refrigerant Chemical Handling and
* Successful candidate must meet minimum medical testing requirements, as determined in a physical examination that includes a lift test

B21 level positions ($17.38) trades experience associated with a skilled trade, performed above the entry-level and less than journey-level. Incumbents operate under the technical leadership of journey-level or crew lead and under the general supervision of the appropriate supervisor or manager.

B22 level positions ($18.48) require three years' experience associated with journey-level or full-performance work. Incumbents operate semi-independently within their assigned areas of responsibility under the technical leadership of a crew lead and/or the general supervision of the appropriate supervisor or manager. Completion of an approved apprenticeship program or equivalent educational course work is required.

B23 level positions ($19.59) require four years' experience associated with journey-level or full performance work in the assigned skilled trades area, plus at least one additional journey level skilled trade not associated with the primary area of responsibility. Incumbents operate semi-independently within their assigned areas of responsibility under the technical leadership crew lead for the other skilled trade(s) in which they have knowledge, skills or abilities. Completion of an approved apprenticeship program or equivalent educational course work is required, as well as demonstrated knowledge, skills or abilities in at least one additional trade at the journey level not associated with the primary area of responsibility.

The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:


* Journey-level HVAC equipment maintenance and installation
* Basic repair and maintenance of a variety of commercial facility systems, including basic mechanical/electrical systems and basic construction


* Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, and demonstrate interpersonal skills with co-workers, supervisors, the College community, and the general public

Physical Requirements:


* Positions in this class typically require: climbing, crawling, crouching, lifting, reaching, balancing, stooping, grasping, manual dexterity, kneeling, standing for prolonged periods, walking, pushing, pulling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions
* Heavy Work: Exerting force up to 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects including the human body
* Incumbents may be working in areas with moving mechanical parts, electrified equipment, vibrations, fumes, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, extreme temperatures, low lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel
