This position is located in Canyon De Chelly National Monument, in the Facility Management Division. This is a Career/Career-Conditional Full-Time appointment. The selectee will serve as the Maintenance Supervisor for the Canyon De Chelly National Monument. The selectee will supervise workers performing a variety of maintenance assignments such as: approve time and attendance, approve leave, make hiring recommendations and complete personnel action, counsel and evaluate the performance of subordinate. Perform and oversee building and grounds maintenance and custodial operations: plans and assigns work, provides technical direction and instruction, provides guidance to address adjustments or delays, oversees and inspects work. Use various automated systems to enter data, work orders and other requests, review and approve time and attendance, and communicate information. Enter and track data by using the Parks Facility Management Software System (FMSS) system, or similar maintenance management system. Completes purchase and contract requests compliant with local and agency procedures and federal acquisition regulations. Ensure that historic buildings and resources are maintained to National Historic Preservation Act standards (NHPA}, by facilitating compliance and collaboration with subject matter experts. Prepare reports and drafts written documents such as work orders, specifications, estimates, purchase requests, instructions. Determine and recommend/obtain amounts and kinds of supplies, materials, equipment and labor required to accomplish necessary work. Operate a wide variety of vehicles, trucks, tractors, utility vehicles and other equipment. Perform a variety of grounds maintenance and custodial functions. Ensure on the job safety and health practices and procedures are followed. Daily Water Operation duties.
Conditions of Employment
U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. Occupancy of government quarters is required. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You must possess and maintain a current Water Treatment Operators Certificate, and you must be able to secure and maintain a valid Arizona Department of Health Services Grade 1 Water Treatment Operators Certificate certified with the Navajo Nation Environmental Protection Agency. Please indicate the level of certification you currently possess. On occasion, you may be required to travel overnight away from home. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Applicants must be at least (1) 18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Physical Demands: Incumbent works on various structures utilizing ladders, scaffold, and platforms and in cramped places. This required standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and cramped positions. Frequently lifts and carries up to 50 pounds. Occasionally strenuous physical effort is exerted in climbing and carrying hand tools and in the repair of powered equipment. Performs backcountry hiking in steep terrain for distances up to 8 to 10 miles/day while carrying a pack. Trail work involves full day travel and work carrying equipment up to 50 pound and traveling 3-5 miles/day for several days per week. Working Conditions: Incumbent works indoors/outdoors primarily during daylight hours, however may work night hours during inclement weather or for emergency response. Temperatures range from -10 degrees F to over 90 degrees F. Summer conditions could include dirt, dust, heat, high winds, noise, wet environments and potential hazards in the form of lighting, poisonous plants, insects, and wild animals. Winter conditions include rain, snow, ice and windblown whiteout/blizzard. Duties are performed at elevations ranging up to 6,000+ feet. Outside work may involve hiking, climbing, that may be performed in all kinds of weather, some of which will be performed under the most adverse conditions. Incumbent is subject to burns, strain, electrical shock, loud noises, battery acids, and hydraulic fluids while working around equipment. Incumbent follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as safety glasses, face shield, gloves, hard-toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear and may be worn or used for extended periods of time.
