Purchasing Clerk

• Purchase the highest quality merchandise at the best possible price and in volumes appropriate to meet customer demand
• Prepare purchase orders, solicit bid proposals and review sales requisitions for goods and services
• Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and suppliers reputation and history
• Negotiate, evaluate, and administer standing orders, seasonal orders and other agreements with suppliers
• Monitor shipments to make sure that product comes in on time, and in the event of problems trace shipments and follow up undelivered goods
• Confer with staff, users, and vendors to discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services and determine corrective action
• Maintain and review items purchased, costs, delivery, product performance, and inventories
• Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by phone, e-mail, or in person
• Communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, vendors and other external sources
• Performing day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork
• Handling complaints, settling disputes, and resolving grievances and conflicts, or otherwise negotiating with vendors
• Team building, encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members
• Seeks pricing from multiple vendors and negotiates for best cost to secure company needs.
• Prepare purchase orders and process requisitions with adequate lead time to ensure on-time arrival of supplies.
• Analyze market trends and apply this knowledge to make effective purchasing decisions.
• Communicate and resolve issues with suppliers and inbound freight carriers.
• Follow up with purchase orders and deliveries to ensure all supplies arrive in a timely manner.
• Performs other related duties as required
• You MUST have experience working in Excel and be able to learn new software applications in a short period of time.
• Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with receivers or warehouse control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action
