    **POSITION SUMMARY:** Provides administrative and technical services in conjunction with patient deaths. Performs administrative tasks within Pathology department in absence of Pathologist Assistant. _Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards._

    1. Performs technical procedures related to autopsies, including making incisions, excising and preparing tissue for examination and assists the Pathologist with cutting of surgical specimens.

    2. Counsels family of deceased patient by explaining hospital procedures when death occurs, organ and tissue donation and when applicable, involvement of the Medical Examiner's Office and requests permission from family for a post-mortem examination.

    3. Participates in hazardous waste management within Pathology Department and University Medical Center. Oversees morticians in the safe handling, storage, transfer and disposal of hazardous materials.

    4. Performs administrative tasks within section.

    5. Coordinates, develops and conducts in-service programs.

    **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:**

    + Graduation from an approved college of Mortuary Science.

    + One (1) year apprenticeship in funeral services and five (5) years’ experience in a related field.

    + Arizona licensed or license-eligible Funeral Director and Embalmer.

    + Combination of education and experience will be considered.

    + Employee must comply with all hospital and department policies and procedures, including infection control policies and procedures, and have met all mandatory requirements as documented in the Individual Core Competency Summary (ICCS).
